Hello, my name is Leona, and I’m an Addict

All my life my parents were very open and honest with us about drugs and alcohol.  They always told us that they couldn’t prevent us from drinking or using, but if we were smart, we wouldn’t get involved in with that stuff.  They pointed out people that had messed up their lives with drugs or alcohol.  My grandfather on my mom’s side was a recovering alcoholic.  One of my uncle’s on my dad’s side was a well.

Well, I listened to my parents.  I have never tried any kind of drug and only drink occassionally.  I learned early on that I have addictive tendancy’s.  I get involved in anything and become addictted to it.  Not all addictions are bad.  I’m addictted to photography, horse back riding, buddyslim.com, and a slew of other things that are great.  It’s the bad addictions that are the problem   I was smart for the most part wisely stayed away from things that I knew would me harmful to me and those around me.  With a one exception:  I smoke.  I know, stupid right?  I started smoking when I was smart enough to know better.  I was 23, and I started to help me lose weight.  I have decided to quit smoking, even though to be honest with you I really enjoy it a lot.  But I’m giving myself one month.  My plan is to get my body on a healthy track and work out everyday and replace my smoking addiction with working out.

But that’s not the only unhealthy addiction I have.  I’m addicted to food also.  I love food.  I plan food.  I create new things and try new recipes to get more enjoyment out of food.  Do I eat for other reasons?  sure, like many of you I eat because I’m upset, or bored, or lonely, or …..Well, the list goes on and on.  But the main reason I eat is because I enjoy it.  Well, I’m going to turn this addiction into a postive one.  I’m going to keep on enjoying my food, but I’m going to make better choices.  I’m going to make new things, create new recipes, try foods I have never tried before.  I’m not going to deny myself this pleasure.  I’m just going to make this addiction a healthy addiction.  Between my healthy addiction to food, and my healthy addiction to exercise (I’m getting there), I’m going to beat this disease.  I just know I am!!

This is exactly how I feel about my food addiction, especially the guilt associated with overeating. Here’s to a positive experience with food!

I smoke too. I have smoked forever though. I am always suprised to hear people who start smoking after they are grown, which I don’t know why since you are supposed to be grown to buy cigarettes… My friend used to steal packs at a time from her g’ma and g’pa and she would share them with me. Earlier this year, I had pretty much stopped, didnt smoke whole months at a time. Or I would smoke one day and then not for weeks. Then during the summer, I started smoing more. I want to quit too. But, like you, I really like it. Eventhough I know how bad it is for me, I really like it. I wish you well on your stopping smoking buddy! I wanna get there soon too!

Someone should start a new challenge on the forum. We non-smokers can buddy up with smokers and for every 5 or 10 pounds we non-smokers lose, you smokers have to give up 1 ciggy a day.
    What say you?

How about someone out there start a new forum challenge. Smokers buddy up with one of us non-smokers, and for every 5 or 10 pounds we loose you have to give up one ciggy per day.
    Anyone up for this?

I too am a smoker, I too love it… even after a good hard workout, the first thing I want to do is have a smoke!! I definitely want to quit in the near future, but I need to get an urge to do so!! For some reason the fact that I know I will die someday from it if I don’t quit isn’t enough. AHHH. I do need some sort of challenge to help me knock it off.

I think it’s goofy to be doing all this heatlhy eating and excersizing then to go inhale all those poisins HELLO!! What are you thinking… That’s what I tell my friend when we workout he goes outside and takes a cig break not once but twice when we’re at the gym. Goofy sheer goofyness.

Hey I’m with Renee what a great idea I’m a non smoker and would love to buddy up with a smoker to help them stop. Good luck hun I hope you can kick this nasty habit the first thing you have to do is admit it then kick it :p

I love this blog. Good for you! Get rid of those nasty cancer sticks. I know you can do it! That will probably help with your exercise area too. You will be able to breath better and longer while exercising. I am very proud of you and your new addiction…to become healthy! Let’s be health addicts together =]
